I’m moving right along. I had a full week last week but here is where I’m at. I had no change last week and it pissed me off to no end. I’ve been walking more, I just didn’t log it… sorry.  I’m going to “back-log” today.

Week 13 Weigh-in

WEIGH-IN:

Start weight:                     265.0 lb
Weight change:                 Lost 24.4 lbs
Current weight:                 240.6 lbs
BMI Status:                      Obese

So I realized that my miles update on here anyway so no need to repeat. I really need to find my motivation. I lost over 2lbs this week so I should be happy, but I don’t feel too happy. I hate this season…  my head hurts and I need coffee. I’m going to go play minecraft… sorry everyone. I failed to post.  I did change my calorie needs to 1310 – 1660 per day.  So I should keep losing. I’ll keep it up.  The down feeling should go away soon, about the same time as the headaches thin down too. Funny how my mood changes everything.

Week 12 Weigh-in

WEIGH-IN:

Weight change:                 Lost 22.2 lbs
Current weight:                 242.8 lbs
BMI Status:                      Obese

The week’s change:
-1.8 lbs

I’m sorry I’m late. I’ve been fighting with seasonal depression, add that to not knowing anyone in town, hiding from the rodeo that worked it's way into a nightmare last night, and toss in that time of the month (sorry to the men) and you have someone that feels very down. I have lost 1.8 lbs even with it being “shark week” (as I call it), so I should be happy. I’m almost out of the 240’s so that should be helping. I’ve lost 22+ lbs, and yes my clothes do fit better. But I still feel fat. When I take a bath I add bubbles to hide my fat. Know there is 20+ lbs less, but there is still 90+ lbs extra that I, and others, see.

When I was at PAX I stood in line for myself and others, kinda like a “gofer”, for food and coffee and other things. and when I would walk away with the stuff for 3 people I would get looks. That look that screams “you pig, going to go fatten up some more?” and they did nothing to hide it. Why should they? I leave the coffee shop with my coffee, and Shaun’s coffee (the same thing), and come back for a 3rd for a friend (still the same). Some of the same people were there and one looked at me and said “jesus…” just that.

The thing is at the time I didn’t really care too much. But now that my mood is dark all the little things are trying to suffocate me. Yes Shaun is a loving husband but there is not a lot he can do. as I said, I have seasonal depression, and I live in Oregon. But yesterday I made my mind up. I may have seasonal depression, but seasonal depression does not have to have me. I don’t have to let it take over. I have a very dark and sad past that makes for the dreams that make you not want to sleep. But I dealt with all that. I don’t need to deal with it every fall. So I need to focus, change my thoughts, and keep my brain busy.

Shaun has been getting on to me for not writhing more, and I stopped logging food, and walking. I’m eating better, but that’s it. We had a talk, by that I mean he told me what was what and I said nothing because he is totally right and I needed to hear it. So I need to get back into my lists, logs, and walk daily. So the next week will be full of my thoughts, feeling, and random stuff. Next week’s weigh-in will have my miles for the week and my total. I said I was going to walk it off, and Shaun got me the tools to do it. I can’t just stop walking. So I’m moving that up in my day on my list of things to do. Coffee and a bite to eat, then walk. Everything else can be done after that. And no youtube walks, or tv type stuff for the first week. Music only! I love to walk to music, so I’ll walk to music.

So I’ll stop here. There will be more to come this week. So I’ll talk at you latter.

Week 11 full Weigh-in

WEIGH-IN:

Start weight:                     265.0 lb
Weight change:                 Lost 20.4 lbs
Current weight:                 244.6 lbs
BMI Status:                      Obese

The week’s change:
-1 lbs

Goal weight:                   145.0 lb
% Goal Complete:          17%
% Time Complete:          8.8%
Days left:                        735

MEASUREMENTS:

Waist                     45.5 in
Hips                       49.5 in
Thigh                     25.5 in
Upper Arm            14 in
Calf                         16.5 in

So here’s the scoop. According to Spark I have lost inches in all but 2 areas, my arms are the same, and my calf is 1.5 in bigger. What the hell? It’s b/c I’m not walking every day. Right? Fine I’ll stop being lazy. Geez I suck. Lol but I lost my goal pound for this week. I go shopping today so that means a lot of walking. I think the problem I’m having is that I love to walk with music. And I have not done that with my treadmill. I take my laptop and set it up with youtube or Netflix. So I’m going to go back to music and see if that gets me into the groove.

I also didn’t log my food this week, I don’t know why. I have had a very off week this last week. It’s like I came back from PAX and said “F@%& it” to my normal way of doing things. That means today I need to do a lot to get back on that ball. I have so many dishes to wash, and other cleaning things. lists to make, and games to NOT play. That’s my problem, I play my games all day and run out of time. So clean first, game after. Lol so game in a few days. Lol I feel silly. I should go start all that stuff now. TTFN!

Week 10 Weigh-in

Week 10 WEIGH-IN:

Start weight:                     265.0 lb
Weight change:                 Lost 19 lbs
Current weight:                 246.0 lbs
BMI Status:                      Obese

The week’s change:
+0.4lbs

Goal weight:                   145.0 lb
% Goal Complete:          15.8%
% Time Complete:          8.1%
Days left:                          741

So I was going to do a “full weigh-in” (weight & measurements) but I just got back from travil and my body is all puffy. So I don’t think it’s a good idea to measure a puffy body, but next Monday I will do the full thing. I also gained 0.4 lb, but that’s great when you think about it. I was at PAX, I was not eating like I should have been. There was some fast food, and drinking, and salty fried stuffs. Not at lot, but some. And yes my body is all puffed up with water and in some pain. I have no idea how many miles I walked each day, but it was a lot.

Last night I told Shaun that I knew I had gained something like 2 lbs over the weekend. I just knew it. There was no way I for me to have Starbucks cookie crumble for breakfast, and cheese pizza for dinner, with nothing in the afternoon, and no have my body just freak out on me. I drank water like a fish and almost never had to pee. So I know I’m holding some water. But that’s fine, this week I will be fixing all of that! I’m just happy I only gained less than half a pound.

Any hoo I’m going to go dig up some food. Drink a lot of water. That kind of stuff. We will see how the week fairs.

Week 9 Weigh-in

WEIGH-IN:

Start weight:                     265.0 lb
Weight change:                 Lost 19.4 lbs
Current weight:                 245.6 lbs
BMI Status:                      Obese

The week’s change:
-3.2lbs

Goal weight:                   145.0 lb
% Goal Complete:          16.2%
% Time Complete:          6.9%
Days left:                        750

The Last time I remember weighing in at about this weight was the week I was sick and could not eat anything for 3 days, I was also going to water workouts 3-5 times a week before that. So that means a few things to me. I really am doing this right. I know it seems like I find that out every week but it feels that way still. And the other thing is that I'm doing this without feeling like I’m getting my but kicked. No I didn’t make my 11 mile goal, but I’m ok with that and I will keep trying this week. I’ve had a lot going on and I’m not having the same amount of time to myself as I normally have. So I’m doing what I can when I can. That and I don’t know how to log what I am doing.

You see a friend moved in a bit of a rush for a new job. And I’m cleaning their house now. But how do I log “mopped for 3 hours”? I know I got one hell of a workout. I could feel it in all of my body. And that was just the mopping, there is a lot to cleaning in a house this big to get it ready to hand over the keys. So that is taking up some time.

O and I would have posted more last week but our internet was down and I kinda forgot I could use my phone until just now. Oops. But no really we had a bit of an information blackout here for a few days. And when it all came back up for some reason my computer didn’t want to let me do anything. So for 2 days I thought it was just the net, then I had to do a load of crap to get it working again yesterday. So, woot I’m back! I know I’m silly but I need my internet fix man, I need to tap into my youtube. Lol
Any hoo I lost 3.2 lbs this last week. That’s 19.4 lbs in 2 months! Now I’m stepping into week 9 and I think I’m starting to get the hang of this. Now that I’m all hooked up to my net again I’ll keep using SparkPeople.com to track everything, and DailyMile.com for my miles walked tracker. I like seeing what I eat and do, it makes me think about it more that if I was just eating.

So to wrap things up, I am doing will. I have a house to finish plus my normal stuff. I’m still eating good and loving it. And I lost over 3 lbs in a week. I’m very happy about things right now. I feel good! Soon I will be able to see it more. I’m going to be so happy when I NEED new clothes because these ones will be falling off. It’s not too far off, but we will see. That will be a big day and I will make a big deal out of it. I know Shaun it already thinking about it, we were talking about it the other day. I am so very thankful to have him by my side.

Ok got to go. Ttfn!

Here's What's New

This may sound bad but today was the first day I didn’t need to hold my tummy back with my hands to read the scale! The treadmill is a big help. I can set my laptop up there and watch YouTube videos while I walk, or have my favorite music blasting at me. I tried playing minecraft while walking, but when I walk try to walk left or right in the game my body would try to do the same. So I need to train my brain a bit so that will work.

Watermelon is like my favorite snack now, I can eat tons (2 cups) and it’s less than 100 calories. I don’t know about you, but for me 2 cups fills me way up, Shaun eats my last few bites most times. And the watermelon we got at the farmers market is so sweet and yummy, ¼ of it is enough to both of us. I eat so many fruits and veggies now, it’s nuts. I totally get it now, the fruits and veggies fill me up and I don’t fill up on junk, fat, and carbs.

We even when out to eat one time this weekend, taco bell. I ordered the new burrito that they say you’ll love it or they replace it. Well they replaced it. It didn’t have any taste to me, it was just a wet burrito. So I got a crunch wrap, and I couldn’t eat it all. That means my stomach is smaller. That’s a good thing. Now normally I go the thing with the most meat and cheese, I didn’t like the crunch wrap b/c it had so much “green crap” on it. But this time it was the first thing I wanted. And it was so good, and I’m not craving it anymore. So that’s another good thing

O and this SparkPeople.com site is great. I’m totally a mini quest girl, and I love points, and that is what this site is all about. I love it! If anyone wants to join me let me know. My user name is JBrasington on that site. I know, not very creative but it’s me and I’m very proud of my new last name. Feel free to share any sites or tools you have found with me. I’m thinking about writing a mini blog about each one I know about and have tried. That way others can pick the one that would work best for them. I know that finding the program that works for you is important. I think I may have found mine.  Only time will tell.

I walked 10 miles last week, and I did walk 5 days, but not the min 2 miles. But I did have a 4 mile day, so that’s good. This week I will try for 10 miles or more. I would like to pass the 10 mile mark. I have hit that mark more than ones.

I will keep up the new way of eating, I have a few days left on my 14 day plan, and I will keep it up after. I did check out the south beach diet book, it has cooking ideas in it too. I haven’t pulled up the old menus yet. SparkPeole has a menu plan too that makes a shopping list. The only problem I’ve had so far is that we’ve spent almost $300 on food for 2 weeks. That’s a lot. Veggies and fruits are not good after long. so I have to get them weekly, and I forgot some things when we went shopping because I was flustered at have an overflowing shopping cart. And yes we still have food, but we are out of a few things that make the meal. so I need to play with things so that I can use what we have.

Also I got my gummy vitamins today. So I think that will help not only with my health, but with stopping food cravings. I also got a blood glucose tester for not that much. So not I can test when I feel that panic shaky feeling, and know if I need to eat or what, I stopped drinking coffee b/c I get shaky and it feels kinda like that start of low blood sugar.

But the really really big thing, Shaun when ahead and got me the dishwasher! I love him so much. So now that’s less time standing, more time walking. O man lets not play down the treadmill. That is going to make this  for me. so unless I’m sick, there is no reason not to walk. Rain, snow, 120 degree heat, hail, none of that can stop me now. Just my head hurting… but I think that will start to be less. It will never go away all the way, but as my health gets better I think I will have more pain free days.

As for my walk a mile test the results are mixed. So I will try 3 tests, on 3 days, and give the average and I’m not fit enough for the step test. I can’t take my heart rate myself b/c its too fast. But this week I will keep up on the push-ups and crunches too,

Good night for now.

Change

I need to stop some bad habits now before they hurt me.

1)      Weigh myself one time a week, and only one time a week! I will start weigh myself on Monday mornings, and put the scale out of site until the next Monday. Seeing my weight change every day does not help me in the long run. I may have weighed a pound less yesterday, but in the long run it only maters what I lose in a week, and keep off.

2)      I will measure my waist, hips, thigh, upper arm, and calf monthly. Starting the 1st of every month regardless of what day of the week it is. I will also go and get a real measuring tape for this today.

3)      Every morning I will log my log my quality of sleep, stress lvl, energy lvl, and self-esteem lvl. I need to be mindful of these and note any patterns I find. This will help me eliminate events that will make this all harder than it needs to be.

4)      Sunday can be a day of rest but cannot be a day off. no more donuts at church, and I will walk/workout at least 10 minutes.

5)      I will shoot for 2 miles a day, for real, not 1.79 miles, 2 miles.

6)      If I feel sick or my head hurts I will still get up and walk for 10 minutes EVERY day, not days off. I have a feeling that once I’m out there I will find that I can walk more.

7)      I will take self fitness tests this week. There are 4, and I will do a “pushup test” Monday, a “crunch test” Tuesday, a “3-minute step test” Wednesday, and a “1-mile walk test” Thursday. Each day after the test I will post a link to direction for each test and how I did.

8)      I will start my days with upbeat music to get me in to mood to move.

That’s all for now. I will post my weigh-in, changes, and last week’s goal evaluating  after my walk. (the music really helps!)

This = That

3500 calories = 1 pound

250 fewer calories a day = 1/2 lb lost per week
500 fewer calories a day = 1 lb lost per week
1000 fewer calories a day = 5 lbs lost per week

(based on a weight of 200 lbs):
Cal. Per hour for
·                     Walking (@20 min/mile) – 410 cal
·                     Walking (@17 min/mile) – 450 cal
·                     Walking (@15 min/mile) – 550 cal
·                     Tennis (doubles)-  410 cal
·                     Aerobic Dance- 450 cal
·                     Swimming 45 min mile- 700 cal
·                     Jogging (@5 mph)- 680 cal
·                     Cycling (@5.5 mph)- 350 cal
·                     Stair-climbing (machine)- 960 cal
·                     Handball- 1155 cal
·                     Bowling- 325 cal
·                     Basketball- 750 cal
·                     Golf (no cart)- 340 cal
·                     Hiking (-4mph + 20lb. pack) – 650 cal
·                     Rope skipping (@100 skips/min) – 1130 cal
·                     Treadmill (@12 min/mile) – 680 cal
·                     Weight Training/Lifting (light) – 500 cal

Cut calories from meals:
·                     1 Tbsp. fat = 100 cal.
·                     2 Tbsp. sugar = 100 cal.
·                     1 soft drink or beer = 150 cal. (or more)
·                     1 dessert = 500 cal.
·                     Trade 8oz. of meat portion for  4oz. = 280 cal.
·                     Reduce salad dressing to 1Tbsp. (not 3Tbsp.) =100-200 cal.
·                     Trade ½ c. peanuts for a crunchy apple = 270 cal
·                     1 Tbsp. mayo, oil, or butter = 100 cal.
·                     Trade 8 oz, whole milk for fat-free milk = 100 cal.
·                     Trade 12 oz. of OJ for just 6 oz = 100 cal.

The point is not to cut foods out, but cut back. You can pick and choose the trades and things to omit each day.  A women can realistically lose 2-4 lbs per month, and men can realistically lose 5 lbs per month.  Therefore my 1lb a week/4lbs a month is a realistic goal. It is also a goal I have been more than successful with so far. Granted I have not been doing this long, and I understand that I will hit a plateau  at some point. To be honest I’m ok with that and I will have a plan to handle that by then.

I’m almost through week 3, it feels like it took both forever and no time at all. This last week was hard, trying to keep active while sick, and rest enough to get better.  I didn’t push myself this week at all. But I did cut the sugar in my tea, I started using Splenda, 1/3 of a packet per cup makes it sweet enough. I started with a packet (1 packet = 2tsp sugar) and it was way too much, so was ½ a packet, so 1/3 it is. Net week I will try no sugar.

Now that I have an activity chart I can try other things. I didn’t put them all here, just ones I thought might be helpful to others. If you want any others let me know and I will try to find them for you. It helps to know what I’m really burning. The bottom line is to keep moving! Losing weight without working-out means losing lean mass too (50%fat and 50% lean mass). We want to lose fat. A “normal” body has fat: Men- 10-20% body fat and Women - 18-27% body fat is good and normal. (ask a doctor for your healthy target)

Anyway, this is what I’m working on right now. Monday I will review my week 3 goals, and post my week 4 goals as well as my weigh-in. I don’t know if I’ll post tomorrow, we shall see.

I'm sticking with it

If my diet were made up of “food replacements” then when I get down to 145 lbs I would stop eating them, and go back to eating my normal food. Then I would just get fat again. If I were to get mail order foods I would not learn how to cook those foods myself, and the same thing would happen. If I were to say No this, or No that, I would want it more and fail.

I have committed to this, and I will commit every morning when I get up to keep it up. I know it’s not going to happen overnight. It took 9 months to put on 40 lbs, and about another year to put on another 50 lbs. I expect it to take that long or longer to get it off in a healthy way.

Eat Right + Exercise + Sensible Lifestyle Habits = A HEALTHY WEIGHT

I know changes are happening in my body. This week has been a sick week because of that. And I believe my body will get over all this soon and I will feel better. My head still hurts, and food is not sounding very good. I can eat, but if I take one bite more than I need, I start to feel sick. I don’t know why, I just know this is what is happening. As long as I’m still eating I’m fine.

This book I found will be my work book. I started reading it and I like it, it is very interactive. I got out a pencil and did the starting chapter. There is a list of healthy eating habits and you check the boxes if you plan on doing that thing, and shade it in if you already do it. There are a lot of checks and a few shaded in. This book is totally for me, and so far is says the same thing I have been saying. Not to say no more, to say less. Make trades with myself. If I was the ice cream I can trade another food, or workout more that day. (Not that I eat ice cream a lot, maybe 2 times a week. Is that a lot?)

I’m also learning new things. Like eating at least 8 fiber foods will help regulate my blood sugar. I’m doing good at limiting high fat foods like butter, mayo, ranch, dips and chips, fast food, and things like that. I still need to work on not frying foods, I use olive oil, but using the broiler would be best. I just need the right pan.  I also need to work on not getting the boxed snacks, diet or not. They have a lot of crap in them. It would be better to just make something myself. Maybe diet homemade cookies? I will  see what I can find.

After I stop being sick I will look into adding 2-3 days a week with strength training. I need to not let being sick become a reason to stop moving forward. I have missed a lot of walking this week because my head hurts too much. But I know it will stop, and I try to move around the house still. And I have walked, but not 2 miles every day. But its not because I don’t want to, it’s because I’m not feeling well. So I’m not going to be upset at myself. I will stop here, I need to lay down.

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

I noticed that mornings are not the greatest for my tummy. I have a drink of water my tummy starts to wake up. But then is feels tight and unhappy, I feel hungry but the idea of eating makes me sick. I can’t think of anything I want to eat. I know that once I eat something small I’ll be fine and want to eat. But I can’t think of anything good to eat. So I’m going to find a list of food ideas, small meals I can make when I’m not able to think of anything good. I tend to fall back on the foods I’ve had all my life. Things like potatoes, cheese, meat, eggs, and bread (all at once if I can). I’m un-learning that, but when I’m not awake yet I need a little help. So I’m going to make a list and put it inside one of my cabinets.

I had a gym membership with a fitness plan for a year, and they sent me meal plans every week. They told me to cook on Sunday, and eat the same thing every day for the week. That didn’t work for me. But now I have a years’ worth of meal plans. I paid for the things; I’m going to use them! Only I’m not eating the same thing for a week, I can pick and choose off all the plans. I just need to find them now.

Not all the things I like have to be bad. And I know that just because I didn’t like something before doesn’t mean it’s bad or I that I won’t like it now. I need to change how I think of food. I need to learn the truth, and believe it. I need to let it sink in, not just forget about it in a month and go back to the way things were. If I do that I’ll be 300 lbs in no time. This is not just a diet, it’s a life change. I need to keep telling myself that so that I don’t start thinking that is just temporary. That’s also why I’m not doing anything massive right out the door.

Lots of times I’ve talked to people about losing weight, and I hear a lot of the same things. “stop drinking soda pop.” And “don’t eat candy or sweets.” Also “if you like it, you probably shouldn’t have it.” The thing is, I don’t drink soda pop, I don’t eat candy, and I have few sweets. And the last one just can’t be true. Can it?

On another note, no library card yet. There system was down all day Monday, so I did some reading there. Now I feel like maybe I should pick a plan and do it. The South Beach Diet sounds best for me, but I’ve been telling myself I’m not going to fall into the fad diet crap. But am I fooling myself by thinking that I can just change a few things here and there and is will work? Should I find the right diet, the right program, and work through it? I also found a book for a 6 week waling plan that gave me some ideas. But should I fallow that plan? It builds you up to walking 14 miles a week by week 6. I did 10 miles on my week 2. So the goals may need bumped up. But the idea is that you do some of the walking in home, as in walking in place. Does that count?

SO MANY QUESTIONS! I have so many questions. I also pulled out from a weight loss class I took in college. It’s “The Cooper Clinic Solution to the Diet Revolution”, and I got it for the class and never opened it. That’s college for you. But now I’m really doing this, so when I found it in a box I thought to myself “is this an answer from God?” so now I’m going to read it, and work through it. The opening is “How I lost 200 pounds with Georgia’s Plan” and this book is an up to date book of the same plan. It’s from 2009, so not that old.

I will read the opening, the Table of Contents, and Foreword tonight. I’ll read this book before I check out another diet book. I think that is this will work then it’s a tool that I have, and I paid for it, I may as well use it. It’s too bad I didn’t really try when I was in the class. I would be done by now! O well, It’s just another reason to stick with it this time.

I’m going to pay with sweat!

This afternoon I had a weak feeling all over my body, I felt hot and shaky and I was afraid my blood sugar was getting low. So I ate a protein bar, nice and slow. Then I had some grapes, one at a time, slow. I also striped and turned on the AC. About 15 – 2o minutes later I felt fine. I just don’t know if it was my blood sugar or the heat. So now I’m thinking about getting one of those meters so I can test my blood. The only problem would be coast, I know you can get free ones, but the strips can get expensive. But I can at least look and see what I can find out.

Monday I will be going to the local library, again. I couldn’t get a card Friday because when I called and asked what to bring they said one thing, mail. I even asked if that was really it, they said yes. So I grabbed the gas bill and my water bottle and headed to the library. I got there 20 minutes before closing thinking that would be just enough time to get the cart and the 2 books I had looked up and had the call numbers for. I tell them I called and here is the mail, and they ask for more stuff. Stuff I don’t have yet because I just got married, and moved. Stuff they had just told me I would not need. So Monday I will go get my new ID with my new name and address, and go get my new library card. Then I can study up about nutrition and some diet plans without paying for the books. Free tools are good tools.

It’s Saturday night, and I feel all right. No really, I walked 1 mile more this week than last week. And I may not have eaten 2 salads, but I did eat a lot more broccoli. I also started adding things like chopped spinach or broccoli to foods every day. So that counts, and I will keep that up easy. Thanks Alex P. for showing me how good broccoli in tomato sauce is, that’s something Shaun and I both love now. And with the right vinegar, asparagus is great. I may make a veggie related goal for each week, or an ongoing one that will help me. I don’t really know yet.

So it’s the end of week 2 and I am still doing this thing! Woot! On top of that I’m not paying for it with cash. I have looked at all kinds of things that I hear will help. Books, web tools, meetings, foods, tools, and they all cost money.  I think it total bullshit that if you want to get healthy you have to pay for it.

I could pay $10 – $15 a week to go to one meeting a week with other people that are trying to lose weight, where they weigh you and tell you how many points you can eat each day. I can pay $300 - $500 a month for tiny foods that get shipped to my house and taste bad but make me lose weight if I don’t break down and eat with my husband instead. I can pay $30 - $60 a month to use a gym, and have all kinds of nice equipment to use in a nice cool place. I can pay $10 - $20 per book to read how to do all this, and another $10 - $50 per cookbook. Don’t forget the pills, that’s $20 - $100 a month right there. O and there are the creams, wraps, waters, CD’s, scales that read body fat, gadgets that count steps and miles, weights that you can add to your arms and legs to make you burn extra fat with everything you do, and they all cost money. Why!?!

There should be a free gym, with all the books and cookbooks you could read. And it should have cheap vitamins that work well, and classes to show you things like cooking and working out. And if you can’t pay for vitamins then volunteer to work there for them. People that want to lose weight should have a place that they just meet at few times a week, for free, so they can talk and help each other out, for free. I don’t care if it’s at a park or a church, or if it’s at my house or yours as long as I can walk there and be safe. Why do I have to pay someone? It’s stupid. I’m not going to pay with money, I’m going to pay with sweat!

My thought are out walking too

So I have been doing a lot of thinking, about what to do, what I’ve tried before, why that didn’t work. That’s right, big surprise, I’ve tried to lose weight before. The thing is, I would lose 20 lbs, and gain 30 lbs. lose 10 and gain 15, so on and so forth. I don’t want that to happen again. I want to do this for real, and long term.

I found a blog that is really good, it’s http://pastaqueen.com/blog/ and its more than good, its great. She is one of my new inspirations. She is real and down to earth, and I understand her struggle. She also pointed out something that I had been thinking myself, about the blog part. My blog adds constant public accountability. If I know someone is reading my blogs then I want to push on just so I don’t give up in public. If I were doing this on my own then I could quit no one would know or really care. My husband agrees, he can encourage me but we both know that he likes the added backing the blog gives. He has a blog as well and writes his deep thought from time to time. So he understands the psychological effects a blog can have on a person. I love him so much!

We started talking about a reword system last night, and about a few other things. When it comes to rewords we know we need to stay away from food. No point in saying that if I lose 20 lbs we can go out for ice cream. So we are talking about things like going out to the movies, and money for game stuff. I really want a dish washer, but I don’t need one. So last night he told me when I get to 225 lbs he will go out and get me that dishwasher I want. That sounds great to me!  So that’s my first big prize. He also said that he wants to start saving some money so that when I hit 145 lbs we can do something big. Like a cruse or a trip, or if I want it and I need it, a tummy tuck. My pick! So that’s way cool. But let’s be honest, the big prize will be being thin, being healthier, and living longer. But a trip or something might be nice too. Or a tummy tuck if I need it, I don’t know if all my skin CAN shrink down again. I’ve got hang now, I can just the hang after I lose another 113 lbs.

You know that’s something not a lot of people that have done this talk about. I have a few friends that have lost 60 – 100 lbs, and they were honest about it with me. No point in lying about it, the stretch marks can fade some but don’t go away, skin can shrink back some but not all the way, and the stomach can shrink but it can grow again. So I understand that I need to make life changes, and I’ll never look like I did when I was 17. That’s fine as long as I can buy close where the only reason it has XXX is if its making a sex remark. Lol I don’t really buy anything like that any way, but I still have XXX on my tag. It kind of makes me think, odd one means you’re really fat, and the other means porn. Sorry, that really is off topic.

So yesterdays walk was hell, by that I mean hot. It was 93 out, and my water had ice in it when I left home, and by the time I got to Wal-Mart 45 min later, what was left was only left because it was too hot to drink. I put ice in it when I got there, and it kept melting until the bottle was full again, with a little ice in it. But it was cold and good. Than I walked around the store at a slow pace for almost 2 hours, I walked more than a mile just in the store. Nuts! I had a list earlier in the day about the things I want to change.  Here, I’ll just post it.

1.       Lose 115 lbs by September 16 2014 (based on a loss of 1 lb a week)
2.       Lose 1 lb a week
3.       Eat 2 salads a week
4.       Workout or walk 5 days a week
a.       45 min each for the first 3 weeks
b.      60 min each after
c.       More adjustments made latter
5.       Take daily vitamins
6.       Drink 4 or more glasses of water (outside of other drinks like tea)
7.       Weigh-in every Monday
8.       Take measurements on the second and fourth Monday of each month
9.       Log food daily
10.   Log workouts and walks daily
11.   Blog 2 or more times a week

It’s a start, and there changes and additions later on, but I think it’s a good start. I don’t want to make too many changes to start out, or make them too hard. That way I don’t set myself up for failure. I know I will fail from time to time, its number one of the list. O, here is the list I got from the Pasta Qween:

1)      Expect failure, but keep trying
2)      Don’t deny yourself
3)      Weigh yourself often
4)      Exercise regularly
5)      Find ways to add little bits of physical activity into your daily routine
6)      Eat a high carbohydrate, low fat diet
7)      Eat about five meals a day starting with breakfast

So lets brake this down:
1)      I am ok knowing I will fail, when I do I will forgive myself, try harder, and move on.
2)      I will still enjoy life, sweets, video games, and my tea. But I will have less, less sweets, less sitting around, less sugar in my tea.
3)      I will be weighing myself weekly.
4)      I will be working out 5 days a week.
5)      I will make it a point to get up and stretch and do something every few hours (it help my legs no lock up too)
6)      I will not avoid noodles or bread, and pick “fats” smart and less often.
7)      I have my log set up with breakfast, am snack, lunch, after noon snack, dinner, pm snack. I may not always have a pm snack, but it’s ok if I do.

Speaking of failing, I failed to get a scale yesterday. So today I get to walk to the store again, I think I will look at bi-mart this time. So I have a walking quest today. And I weighed in Monday so I’m not behind or anything. So not a total fail, I’m turning it into a reason to walk, so it’s good now. Right? Right.

Ok, I’ll stop here before this gets too long. I’ve got some cooking and cleaning to do anyhow, and I get to log that as exercise too so that rocks. I’ve put 5 miles behind me in the last 2 days. Let’s see if I can top last week’s 9 mile total!

Starting to see the up hill battle ahead

I Lost 2 lbs last week. Shaun said he thinks I lost more fat than that, but that I gained muscle in my legs because of all the walking up and down hills. I’m ok with that.

“*Based on your total calories consumed for today, you are eating too few calories. Not only is it difficult to receive adequate nutrition at these calorie levels, but you could also be putting your body into starvation mode. Starvation mode lowers your metabolism and makes weight loss more difficult. We suggest increasing your calorie consumption to 1,200 calories per day minimum.”

That is the message I got after I logged my meals yesterday. So I’m fat because I don’t eat enough?! What the hell?! That’s not fare at all. So today I’m fixing that. I’m going shopping and I’m getting some vitamins and better food. Also a scale, so I can weigh-in at home. By the way I did do some reading on diet pills and such. No, I will not be taking that road, no need to fool and harm myself. Vitamins and fiber are one think, a drug that is going to mess up my body even more is another. I have enough crap on my plate, I don’t need any more. Hell, I'm trying to get the crap OFF my plate.

I found out that there are a few things I can take that will help a lot. So I will see what my store has, I’m hoping to get a women’s multi with B-complex for energy. I may also look at fiber caps to start out. Just until I can fix my diet more, we are on a budget you know. I looked up some great coupons to print out, then remembered that our printer is one of the things we got rid of for the move. Bummer.

I also looked up a few weight loss blogs today. I found a few that I am going to read, looking for tips and ideas that fit me. I will link that good ones here along with the cool stuff I find. I will also pay attention to how they are done and compare to mine. I am doing this for myself first, but I’m also putting it out there for others to read. So I would like it if people enjoyed what they read and maybe found it helpful. Please feel free to comment and leave suggestions for me. I’d love to know what you think.

I may have an up hill battle ahead, but with help, I know I can make it. All I need is my friends and family, and a few good tools to keep me going in the right direction. I'v got 11 miles behind me, let put another 11 back there.

Day1/Week2

Today’s quest list:

1.       Go feed joe’s cats
2.       Box up kitchen stuff to bring home
3.       Visit DMV
4.       Fine a scale and weigh myself

Let me just say that I will I had not given up my scale when we moved. I have no idea if I’m losing anything. What I do know is that I’v been logging what I eat, and I have not changed anything yet. Still I have found that I ate an average of 1683.5 calories a day last week. So I should be losing weight. I also walk more now than I did before we moved. But other than my legs not hurting so much after a long walk, I feel like nothing has changed. So I’m really hoping that I lost at least a pound.

I only walked 4 days last week because my head was killing me Friday. Saturday we moved in our couch and some tables and stuff, and had a friend over. Sunday in our day of rest and we spend it together doing whatever we like (mostly we play games). So this week I need to step it up and make it all 5 days. I don’t want to slack off at all, and I know myself. If I let myself miss one this week to, 4 a week will become my normal, not 5. I don’t want that. I can do this, I just need to get up and go.

So that’s what I’ll do. I will make it a goal to be out the door every day before 3pm. That gives me 2 hours before Shaun is off work. I will pick somewhere and start walking. Even if all I do is walk across town to look around the GameStop for a bit. Then I start for home, and if I make it home great. If not then I will have Shaun pick me up. As long as I walk for 45 min or more each time this week, I’m fine. I will reevaluate for next week and see how I should step it up again.

I’m thinking about this because right now I have a reason to leave every day. I take care of some cats, but not for too long.  So I’m thinking about my motivations after the cats are gone. I’m a gamer, and I love games with mine quests. So I stopped writing a todo list, and I started calling it my quest list. It’s silly but I like it and it works. I don’t need it to work for other people, just me. So I will be as silly as I need to be to get things done. If changing the name of a list helps than so be it. Why the hell not?  I’m doing things my way, and I will change it as needed.

Now I need to get ready for another walk in the heat. I’ll post what I lost later.

Bad Blood sugar

For the 4th of July my husband and I went for a walk along the river. It was a great walk, totaling about 3 miles. I love him so much, and he makes this all feel so easy. I don’t think I could do this without him. We talked and joked, and he really motivated me to keep this all up.

“I support this a million %!” He told me

“That’s a lot of %” I said

“As long as you keep this up, I’m willing to encourage you and help give you the tools you need to make it work.” He told me

Well he also gets to help me when things start to crash. At the half-way point I started to feel my blood sugar drop. I am one of the “less common” people that have hypoglycemia (an abnormally diminished content of glucose in the blood, the term literally means "low sugar blood" and effects can range from mild dysphoria to more serious issues such as seizures, unconsciousness, and (rarely) permanent brain damage or death) without being a diabetic. So 12 blocks from the finish of our walk I was shaking and we had to stop to eat. I kept thinking “this is why I’m fat” and “how will I ever loss weight if every time I push myself I have to stop and eat?”

However I know that’s not the truth. My hypoglycemia is just something I need to work with, and its one of the reasons I need to do this. I had oatmeal and tea before the walk, like 3-4 hours before. Not bad, but I should have had more protein to keep me going. I don’t eat a lot, but I don’t eat the best either.

We stopped at a place that was just about on the trail, a Mexican food place with the giant burritos. Now they didn’t tell us how big they were, so I got one with stake, and he got one with shredded beef. They had rice, beans, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole, covered in red sauce, 2 burritos the size of my forearms! I had to get my blood sugar up fast so I also had some horchata (a sweet rice drink). No we did not sit there and eat all of our food. We ate just over half of our burritos (we could have split one easy), and packed up the rest for later. Refilled our water bottles, and set off to finish our walk.

Shaun wants me to keep a granola bar or something like that on me at all times when I’m away from home. I think this is a good idea, but it sucks at the same time. Growing up I had points where I would feel shaky and panic eat. I didn’t know what it was; I just knew that eating fixed it. When I was pregnant with my little girl it happened and I had nothing to eat, I was walking. Well I ended up passing out and having 911 called and it was just bad. Now I know more about it, but it still feels like I have an umbilical core to food.

Yes we all need food to live, but I need food more than most. If I miss a meal and do anything my body freaks out. Then I have to eat or I could die. So I eat until I feel better, I have to drink sweet crap so that it gets into my blood and brain fast. Then I need to have real food so that I don’t just crash again. On top of that the body will block off energy from burning fat for a few hours after a low blood sugar spell. So I have to eat for energy, but most of the time I just feel like sleeping. Anytime this happens it feels like I had the hardest workout of my life, and my body needs to rest to recover. I hate it.

Yes this can be controlled, and we are working on that. That is one of the reasons I’m making the changes I am. Sadly having hypoglycemia means my pancreas is working in over drive all the time. That means it will wear down, and in older age hypoglycemia becomes diabetes. I don’t want that to happen sooner than it has to. I just wish I had known 10 years ago what I know now.

Day 2/ Week-1

~total miles walked so far this week:  5

Well I only thought about making a blog today. I think of this as a way to track myself, give me something to look forward to as I walk, and look back on when times get hard. I'm also using Dailymile and Myfitnesspal to keep track and set goals.

To start out I'm going to walk for a minimum of 60 minets a day, 5 days a week. This week I will start tracking what I eat (as of today) so that I can see what I need to change. My husband and I are talking about me trying Medifast. Really the big question is do we want to pay $330 a month for mini meals, plus dinners, plus his normal food? He is in great shape, and can eat anything, and as much as he likes. He still has a 29inch waist! I pray our kids get that from him.

A little background: I was a fit kid and teen. When I was 17 I was about 160lbs, and had a 32inch waist I was happy with. I was strong and loved to walk and ride my bike all day long. If someone needed to move something heavy they would call me. Things didn’t change until I was 18, and I got pregnant. Everyone told me I had to stop riding my bike all over, I had to stop walking so much, and I needed to eat more, blah blah blah. They were all full of it, and I didn’t know any better.

When I gave birth to Shelby she was 8lbs 14oz, and I was 250lbs. that was in 2003. I got down to 210lbs but I never could get below 200lbs. when Shelby was a year old I found out I was pregnant again. This time I didn’t gain a pound. But as I go to my 3rd trimester something went wrong, I was put on all kinds of meds to try and save him, but my son died. A few months later, rather that deal with the loss, my long term boyfriend and the father of both my children left me and took out little girl with him to live with his mom. I became a stress eater, and I slept all the time. After a few years of that I realized I was 260lbs. bigger that I had been when I was 9 months along with a very big baby.

My husband and I met in college, we too yoga and a few other classes together. He knows all about my past and has been my rock from day one. He loves me, big and all. But I don’t like that he has to slow his life down so that I can keep up. I want to have my active life back; I want to have a waist line, not rolls. So I’m doing this, for real.

My all time dream would be to get to 145 or less. My actual goals will be in chunks:

1.       My first goal is just to lose 1lb a week, anything over that is gold.
2.       I want to get below 200lbs, to that is on my list.
3.       I also want to be able to walk more than 2 miles without my legs hurting and feeling like it was a long walk.
4.       I want to be able to walk home from town without having to slay down to a crawl and feeling like I may pass out (I live on a steep hill).
5.       There is a long steep set of stairs at the end of 13th that go half way up the hill, I want to be able to walk down them without my legs shaking.
6.       I want to be able to walk UP the stairs at 13th.
7.       I want to go for a jog and make it more than 4 blocks without feeling like I can’t breathe.
8.       I want to fit size 10 jeans!

Ok I said “I want” but that is a fast list of goals. I will refine it this week and post a real list with target dates and rewords for myself. Like I said, the real solid ones are to work out or walk for an hour, 5 days a week, and to lose 1lb a week. Also to track food and workouts online. I will find a way to like it all together here if I can.

So that’s it, I’m going to walk it off.
